Zach is a 16 year old young man who came out to his parents. They sent him off to Love In Action, a group claiming to cure homosexuality and equating it with drug addiction. Homosexuality is not a crime. The American Psychological Association states that homosexuality is not a disease nor a mental disorder, so how is it possible to cure him?
The methods used in this camp are considered unconstitutional as the forced participation violates the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." An investigation by the State of Tennessee was launched to see if LIA had committed child abuse. In a speedy decision, the state decided that there was no child abuse. However, we stand firm in our belief that this is psychological abuse, and an issue of human rights, parental rights, youth rights, and gay rights.
We are dedicated to stopping organizations like this from forcing teenagers and others into their programs. While the voluntary enrollment is protected by freedom of religion, we feel that forced entry is not, and that these organizations should be regulated to prevent further abuses.
